Biographical
Koml is a lawyer, arbitrator and mediator in British Columbia with 20 years of experience in labour relations and workplace dispute resolution.
After being called to the British Columbia Bar in 2000, she spent 12 years in private practice as a labour, employment and human rights lawyer. Drawing on that experience, Koml went on to hold a number of roles that have given her a unique, well-rounded perspective on workplace dispute resolution, most recently as Vice-Chair and Registrar of the Labour Relations Board of BC.
From 2012 to 2015, Koml was legal counsel at the Health Employers Association of BC. Koml gained intensive experience conducting collective bargaining with a major health sector bargaining association, building relationships across the table, and leading implementation of the collective agreement across the province.
In 2015, Koml was appointed as a Vice-Chair of the Labour Relations Board of BC, as well as Registrar in 2017. In these roles, she adjudicated and mediated over 130 disputes and applications under the Labour Relations Code, in a wide variety of public and private sector industries. As Registrar, Koml became known for finding practical solutions to labour relations challenges, often arising in time-sensitive and charged situations.
In July 2019, Koml commenced her own practice as an arbitrator and mediator, specializing in workplace dispute resolution. Koml is also a named arbitrator on the BC Collective Agreement Arbitration Bureau's Register of Arbitrators for conducting expedited and other arbitrations under the Labour Relations Code. She is available to conduct mediations and arbitrations throughout BC, and can be contacted about other locations.
With her unique experience, Koml is a trusted neutral who brings a collaborative, empathetic and practical approach to resolving disputes, and uses her expertise to help parties move forward.
